SBG Idaho Head Black Belt, Scott Thometz, had a strong showing at the IBJJF San Jose Open, Saturday, July 29th, taking home his first IBJJF medal! Thometz took Bronze in the Adult, Blackbelt Lightweight division. Thometz dropped his semifinal matchup to former Worlds and Pans Runner up Fransisco “Sinistro” Iturralde of Ecuador. Thometz showed skill and determination in the match losing by only advantage points to the seasoned black belt competitor, Iturralde. In the open weight division, Thometz drew the current ADCC 194 pound champion, Yuri Simoes of Caio Terra Association. Thometz showed considerable toughness and skill despite being outsized by nearly 30 pounds! Thometz tangled with the  ADCC champion for seven minutes, before succumbing to a submission. before being submitted.

We are incredibly proud of the skill Coach Scott showed, not only against black belt competition, but CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER black belt competition! We can’t wait to see the improvements he makes with what he gained from this experience!
