Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho athletes Freddy Arteaga and Stephen Stirewalt both claimed victories at Front Street Fights 4 this past Friday night at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, ID.
In the evening’s second bout, Stirewalt (3-3) was able to coax a first round submission from Leon Taylor by way of triangle choke. Taylor came forward at the bell, throwing hard punches and backing Stirewalt into the cage. Stephen responded with a hard body kick, which was caught and turned into a takedown by Taylor. On the way down, Stirewalt was able to sneak his legs up and secure the choke. After an extended battle on the ground Stirewalt was able to adjust the hold enough to force the tap.
In the second professional bout of the night, Freddy Arteaga (5-3) finished Weston Barnes by way of punches in round number one. After a brief feeling out process, Arteaga landed a hard overhand right that put Barnes on the mat. Arteaga attempted to finish but Barnes recovered well and returned to his feet, where the two resumed the striking battle. Arteaga was able to stay a step ahead though, using good footwork and feints to keep his taller opponent guessing, all while landing hard shots of his own. The end came several minutes later via another hard right that put Barnes down on a knee. Arteaga followed him down and blasted away with standing to ground strikes until the fight was called.
Congrats to all our fighters, training partners and coaches, great nights like this are always a team effort!
