Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho’s Scott Jorgensen suffered a serious injury at the end of round one in his fight with Alejandro Perez this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Ahead on the scorecards near the end of a first round that saw him get the better of the striking exchanges as well as land a pair of takedowns, Jorgensen was hit in the lower left leg by a seemingly harmless Perez kick . Appearing unaffected, Jorgensen attempted to move and saw his ankle immediately roll, causing him to stumble and limp away as the buzzer sounded. The injury was obviously very severe, but Jorgensen advised his cornerman and the referee that he wanted to continue. As round two began, it was obvious Scott could not use his left leg at all. Being the warrior he is, Scott battled back on one leg, counter punching against the fence, throwing knees and high kicks with his bad leg, and even attempting a takedown. A left high kick with only 30 seconds left in the round, caused Scott to collapse in pain, unable to continue.

A preliminary diagnosis by doctors in Mexico was drop foot, which is defined as a peroneal nerve injury that affects a patient’s ability to lift the foot at the ankle. Scott is safely back in Idaho now, and will undergo an MRI soon to determine the full extent of the injury.

As always we are incredibly proud of Scott and the pride he shows every time he steps foot in the cage. A willingness to fight through a serious injury reveals the truth of a man’s heart and warrior spirit. Get well soon Scott!!!
