During the month of October, SBG International will be running their 2nd annual #chokeoutcancer fundraiser. Beginning today, September 17, we will have pink belts available for $20. All of the money raised within the organization will go to non-profits that either benefit cancer research, or those directly affected by the disease. These belts will be worn throughout October in SBG gyms throughout the organization as a way to show our support and raise awareness. Striking students will also have the opportunity to join in on the fundraising, as all proceeds from pink hand wraps will go towards the cause through the month of October!
This year SBG Idaho will be donating all of our profits to Camp Rainbow Gold, Inc. Camp Rainbow Gold is an amazing local organization, dedicated to providing emotionally empowering experiences to Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families. One of the first children’s oncology camps in the country, Camp Rainbow Gold was established in the mid 1980s. The camp originated in McCall, Idaho, and is now held in August, annually, at Cathedral Pines in Ketchum.
Camp Rainbow Gold provides nearly hundreds of cancer survivors with an escape from the rigors of their illness. Due to the generosity of so many Idaho residents, and major fundraising events orchestrated by wonderful volunteers, this unique camp is provided free of charge to campers and their families. Additionally, camp is attended by a full medical staff and a licensed social worker, in an effort to ensure the children are supported both medically and emotionally. Camp staff and volunteers are highly trained and aim to provide a fun, safe and caring community for the children. This is a wonderful organization that SBG coach Daniel Marin, members Guhn Chang and Jill Henggeler, and fighters Kyle Frost and Stephanie Hernandez, have graciously donated their time to in recent years!
If you already have a belt from last year’s fundraiser, which raised nearly $33,000 organization-wide, your $20 donation will get you a “Choke Out Cancer” Stripe to add to your belt. We will be working with Camp Rainbow Gold Program Manager Jason Hosick for an “End of Choketober” event that will hopefully see a mat full of pink belts!
