SBG Idaho Coach Stephen Stirewalt continued his winning ways in Las Vegas, this past Saturday, October 7, at King of the Cage: Future Legends 39. Stirewalt earned a dominant unanimous decision victory over Gracie Humaita brown belt, Alberto Romo. After a brief flurry to start round 1, Romo jumped on a guillotine choke. Stirewalt successfully defended before Romo switched to a kimura armlock. Again, Stirewalt defended successfully, and then began posturing up and landing hard shots on the ground. As Romo continued to hunt for submissions, Stirewalt calmly regained dominant positioning before continuing to punish with his ground and pound. As the round wore on, Romo’s energy level dropped, and Stirewalt became more aggressive, gaining mount, back control, and hunting for a Darce choke. Rounds two and three were near mirror images of each other, with Romo coming out aggressively and gaining a takedown, before Stirewalt used the cage to stand, reverse, and gain a takedown of his own. From there, Stirewalt continued to dominate the positional grappling battle, while landing damaging strikes from top. Overall. it was a fantastic display of well-rounded mixed martial-artistry!
